How to get Sworn affidavit from High Commission of India, London

         This post is 4 years old and things changed with HCI a lot. please refer the website always and make sure get an online appointment before you go.

         Apply for something in High Commission of India, London is always a nightmare for Indians in UK. I need to bring my newborn baby to London and I have to send a sworn affidavit from HCI in UK to apply for passport. I went through a lot of blogs to find what exactly i need to get a sworn affidavit from HCI, London. Unfortunately I couldn’t find enough information .IT could be because they keep changing the system. However I have decided to write a blog for the rest.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The requirements always change in HCI. So please consider it as just a guide line. This blog is based on my visit to HCI on February 2012.

1. Get a token before 12.00 Noon. Make sure get a token of consular services from automated machine inside the building.
         Yes, something like that happened in HCI. It is not brilliant, but it serves its purpose. You don’t have to wait outside in front of window anymore [i hope]. If you are coming from outer London, there is no point rushing towards HCI in early morning rush hour. Because You have to wait till 4.00 PM and prepare for it [unless you know an insider].
2. Make sure get a photo copy of relevant pages of your passport.
      Usually, it is only first page and last page of your passport. But in my case, I have a name correction that signed on another page.
3. When you get inside ask them for an application for sworn affidavit on counter No.1 [in London
     You can download it from internet, or so they say. I couldn't find it. But don’t worry, you can download one from here.  you have plenty of time to fill one of those while you waiting inside. Make sure you fill it before they call your number.
4. When your token number call, go to Counter no.1 and give Application form, your passport with copy and £10 in cash.
     It says £18 everywhere but they told me it is only £10. Wow, I saved £8.
5. Go back and collect after 4.00
    They will call your surname from counter no.1. Give your receipt of £10 back and collect Affidavit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 You can download form from following link.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NB.
 1. They never asked me proof of address. But it’s good to take a utility bill or bank statement with its copy.
2. Prepare for a long stay inside unless you have something else to do in London.
3. Please don’t intimidate them. They will make sure you going to stay all day there [from previous experience].
4. Always be humble and Make sure call them 'sir' every now and then. :)

Anyways, My overall experience this time in HCI was really good. I saw “not so really  nice guys” inside the counter. But one who served me was really good as always.

from Srinivas Reddy (thanks you):

1. HCI London is roughly 500 to 600 metres far from Temple Underground station.
2. Reached HCI London at 08:25, by that time nearly 70 to 80 people on each Queue.
3. There are two Q's one for Consular Service & another for passport services ( I waited in the Consular Service Queue).

4. They have started issuing tokens at 08:30, after half an hour they allowed certain no.of people inside, and then stopped us, gave us tokens for all the people in the Queue asked to come at 10:00 AM.

5. I was allowed to go inside at 10:00 AM. there are 30 people ahead of me. It took roughly an hour to submit the form and Xerox copies of passport & residence permit ( self attested). and then he asked to come at 04:30 PM evening. He gave me a printed receipt which is the key when you collect the affidavit form.

6. After that i roam here and there , it's freezing temperature outside, spent nearly 6 hours outside just going here and there.

7. Again waited outside HCI London at 04:30 PM, he allowed inside, for the collection it's the same place where you have submitted the form, but no Queue first come first served basis. Hardly took 10 minutes. I left at 04:45 PM.

a. I get the document from this site, which is acceptable.
b. Required a passport copy self attested ( exactly below the passport copy).
c. Passport Original, but given back after verification instantly

Suggestion(Irrespective of which service you have opted for ): If you are bringing any elderly or kids , especially in winter if you are coming from out station make sure you wear good better winter clothing to protect this freezing temperatures outside.

    Just I need one more information apart from what you mentioned.

    After we got the sworn affidavit from the counsellor (At the end of the day), Is that affidavit alone will be sufficient to apply passport to my kid(or) do we need to have a notary from Public lawyer from the UK.

    Thanks

  28. Hi Balaji,

    I am assuming you are going to Indian Embassy in london. Its better you reach early there. Try to be there by atleast 7:30AM. I am not sure about the number of token they issue daily. When I went, I am there at embassy by 6AM. Only two were there before me and I am the first person in the consuler section. I finished submitting the document by 9:15AM and they asked me come at 4:30PM. I got the letter by 5:00PM.

    Please let me know if you need any other information apart from this.

    Good Luck.

  31. Thank you for sharing this valuable information. It helped me today getting it. Just to add my pennyworth, in my case I had to travel 2.5 hrs to reach London, so I went there only by 11:45 a.m and got my token (#77) there were four or five persons behind me, I dont think they have any restriction on the number of tokens, but they strictly stop issuing token after 12'O clock. my number was called only @ 1:30 and they closed the service for lunch :-( , he told us the network connection to Delhi was down :-) and we were asked to come back @ 2'O clock. Finally submitted the filled in application form (paid 10 pounds fee) and I was asked to come back @ 4:30. Collected the stamped Letter by 4:45. My advise is if you're travelling from somewhere else to London, and taking day off from work then no need to go in early hours.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dear Arav,

    Only you have to fill yor details. Remaning fields which are not belonging to you, will be stiked by the officer before giving the document to you. And you dont need to get sworn document attested by a notary.

    Hope it helps. please ask if you have any more questions.

  38. Hi ,

    My wife passport has my name (spouse name) with address "A" . My child's birth certificate has the address "A" in it. And my passport has her name(spouse) with address "B". Currently i am abroad @UK, passport officials said that i need to submit affidavit for child. From this blog i got a good idea about how to get the affidavit but my question is will affidavit have any mention about parent's passport addresses. I want affidavit to mention about address A only - so that i can get my child passport with address A.

    Thanks,
    Sekhar

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi Shekar,
    THe address in affidavit should be your UK address. it doesnt have to be your passport address. Make sure it matches your address in your suppport form. it helps when you apply for visa.
    The reason your kid's passport has address A beacuse only your wife was present when they applied passport. it doesnt matter. the address is not really important.
    Good Luck !

    BTW what do you mean the address in the support form - which support form are you talking abt ?

    I am currently staying a shared accomodation with friends here @london. Planned for a seperate house , so that i can prepare a rental agreement to help my wife get visa processed by my company.

    Please kindly let me know if my understanding is wrong.

      is your wife and daughter back at home in india?
      then you have to give your affidavit to your wife and she can show your marriage certificate as proof of marriage.

  51. Simplicity is undoubtedly the key factor when it comes
    to design website for mobile device, which is quite difficult to achieve in the new
    era of glittered and feature rich websites. This can be accomplished through Visual Studio also, but it will require
    you to use Microsoft's products for this purpose. You would say that it is somewhat ambitious to attain a global market with the use of custom web design, but it is possible with hard work and determination.

    Thanks guys for the above information, it helped me a lot.
    I was there in birmingham yesterday to get Sworn Affidavit for my daughter to apply passport in india.

    Wanted to share some information which is not provided in the Birmingham http://www.cgibirmingham.org/

    You wont get the affidavit on the same day, they will ask you to come the next day or you have to provide them a special delivery cover which you can get it from post office. Post office is located close to consulate, once you come out of consulate turn right and take immediate left and dead-end right, you will lead to a small passage which will hit a main road, on your left you can find a post office. The cost of the special delivery cover is 7 pounds.

    Carry a passport size photo to paste in another form they will provide, when you ask for sworn affidavit and xerox of visa page from your passport

    Thanks,
    Vijay

  63. Thanks for this Blog. I have got the sworn affidavit to apply passport for my Kid in India.

    I went there by 7:15 AM, saw there were around 30 ppl already waiting in the queue. There will 3 queue's once for passport application, one for OCI and one for POI and other service. Please wait there at the queue for POI and other service, there will be no notice boards about the queue names, but at 8:30 there will be a person coming and telling you about which queue for what.

    They will call you by 9:30 to give the token asking for the reason and would be asked to wait at the hall. You again need to wait for the consular to come into the cabin. Please have proper change and all the Xerox copies ready. Once you are called out you need to present your original passports. I gave my Passport copy, Birth certificate copy of my kid, Marriage certificate because my wife name is not added in my passport. He wil verifiy and give you a form to fill for the Sworn affidavit. The form is also available in the below URL. Fill that and handover to him, you would be asked to come at 4:30 in the evening to collect the document. It is again queue in the evening to collect the documents. For Sworn its not a big issue with the India House. But anyother stuffs its not easy to get your work done there, i saw lot of ppl are coming for so many times to get their work done.
