Can I drive abroad with UK license? Or Is My UK driving license is an international one 

The answer is partialy Yes.

In Europe

Great Britain (GB) or Northern Ireland driving licence  is valid in all European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) countries, and Switzerland

You may need an International Driving Permit to drive outside theEU/EEA.

How do I get an international driving Permit (IDP)?

You can get IDP from the AA, RAC or the Post Office. It depends how fast you need it and how much you need to pay.

1)      Apply by post :

What do you need?

·         Your driving licence or pass certificate & provisional licence

·         Passport photograph

·         Photocopy of your passport

·         Self-addressed envelope

·         Original signed application form

Appropriate fee- You have to pay 5.50 + £2.50 postal application processing fee + additional £4.00 priority fee if you need urgent

2)      AA Port Travel Shops

You may apply at AA Dover (Eastern Docks Terminal) or, if travelling via Eurotunnel, AA Folkestone (Eurotunnel Passenger Terminal). You must complete an application form and produce one of the following original valid documents:

•  your UK driving licence (if photocard licence then both photocard and counterpart), or
•  your UK pass certificate (certificate of competence to drive, valid for two years from the date of your test), together with your provisional driving licence.
• A recent passport size photograph on photographic paper signed on the back by you and showing full face against a light background (See photograph checklist on application form)
• Your passport.

What is the Fastest, easiest and cheapest way to get an IDP?

Please go through these selected post office and if are near any of it, Pop in and you get one ready to use within 10 minutes they called you to counter. You only have to pay £5.50

What do you need?

• Your UK driving licence (if photocard licence then photocard and counterpart)
• Recent passport-sized photograph
• The statutory charge for a permit is £5.50.
• Also another debit/credit card to verify signature (depends on customer service agent you being served)
• Application form – ask to assistant for an IDP form.
